FIA Announces Penalty for Verstappen at Imola Following…read more

The FIA has officially announced a penalty for Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen following the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola. The reigning World Champion was found to have breached track limits multiple times during the race, prompting an investigation by race stewards.

According to the FIA statement released shortly after the conclusion of the race, Verstappen exceeded the track limits on several occasions, leading to a review of onboard footage and telemetry data. As a result, the Dutch driver has been handed a five-second time penalty and one penalty point on his Super Licence.

This penalty affects Verstappen’s finishing position, potentially altering the final race results depending on the time gaps to drivers behind him. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner expressed frustration with the decision, calling the enforcement of track limits “inconsistent,” while Verstappen remained tight-lipped, saying only that he would “review the decision with the team.”

The FIA has been strict about enforcing track limits throughout the 2025 season, following complaints from drivers and teams about inconsistencies in prior years. The ruling is part of the governing body’s continued efforts to ensure fair racing conditions and uphold the integrity of the sport.

Fans and pundits alike are now speculating about the implications this may have on the championship standings, as Verstappen remains in a tight battle at the top of the leaderboard.
