FIA Issues Penalty Verdict Following Leclerc-Stroll Collision a…read more

Monaco, May 24, 2025 — The FIA has issued a penalty to Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll following a collision with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc during the first practice session (FP1) of the Monaco Grand Prix weekend.

The incident occurred at the Loews Hairpin, where Stroll re-entered the racing line under braking, leading to Leclerc’s Ferrari making contact with the rear of Stroll’s car. Leclerc sustained front wing damage, while Stroll’s Aston Martin suffered rear suspension damage, ending his session prematurely.

After reviewing the incident, the FIA stewards determined that Stroll was “wholly to blame” for the collision. Consequently, he received a one-place grid penalty for Sunday’s race and one penalty point on his super licence.

Despite the early setback, Leclerc showcased strong performance by topping both practice sessions. He clocked a best lap of 1:11.355 in the second session, surpassing championship leader Oscar Piastri by 0.038 seconds.

The Monaco Grand Prix continues to present challenges, with new regulations mandating the use of three different tyre compounds and at least two pit stops during the race, aiming to enhance strategic diversity and unpredictability.
