Lewis Hamilton BAFFLED as FIA Issue Late Penalty Verdict at Monaco GP

Lewis Hamilton expressed his confusion and frustration after the FIA handed down a surprise post-race penalty verdict during the Monaco Grand Prix, catching both fans and teams off guard.

The seven-time world champion, who finished in a respectable position after a tactical and tightly contested race around the streets of Monte Carlo, was left “baffled” when stewards announced a time penalty related to an incident that occurred in the early stages of the race.

The penalty, which was not communicated during the race, appeared to concern Hamilton’s defensive move against a rival driver while exiting the tunnel section. While Mercedes maintained that the move was within racing limits, the FIA cited “unsafe maneuvering” as grounds for the infraction.

Hamilton, speaking after the race, said:
“I honestly don’t understand the decision. We went the whole race without any notice or investigation, and then suddenly there’s a penalty after the checkered flag. It’s frustrating when things aren’t consistent.”

The timing of the decision sparked criticism from fans and pundits alike, with many questioning the delay and the clarity of race control decisions. The FIA has yet to release detailed telemetry or radio evidence justifying the late ruling.

Mercedes has reportedly requested a full explanation and may appeal the decision, depending on further clarification.

The incident casts a shadow over what was otherwise a dramatic and incident-filled Monaco GP, adding to growing concerns about the consistency of officiating in Formula 1.
