Seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton has opened up about his current struggles in the 2025 season, admitting he is “hurting” amid a difficult run of form with Mercedes. The British driver pointed to a “crucial change” that he believes has dramatically affected the team’s performance — and his confidence behind the wheel.
Hamilton revealed that recent aerodynamic adjustments to the car, intended to close the gap with rivals Red Bull and Ferrari, have instead led to instability and a lack of rear grip — elements he says are “breaking the connection” he once had with the car.
“This isn’t where I want to be,” Hamilton said in a post-race interview after finishing outside the top five for the third consecutive Grand Prix. “I’m hurting, because I know what this team is capable of. But we’ve made a change in direction that just isn’t working for me right now.”
The Mercedes star, who is set to join Ferrari in 2026, also noted that team communication and strategy execution have been “off-sync” in recent weeks. Despite the setbacks, Hamilton emphasized he remains committed to fighting for improvements this season, adding, “We’ve been through tough times before. This is no different — but we have to act fast.”
As the F1 circus heads to Imola for the next round, pressure is mounting on Mercedes to find solutions quickly — and help their star driver rediscover the form that once made him the most dominant force on the grid.
