Max Verstappen Blasts Ferrari Over ‘Dangerous’ Ferrari Test
Three-time Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen has hit out at Ferrari over what he described as a “dangerous” and “irresponsible” testing session at Fiorano, their private track in Italy. The Dutchman criticized the Maranello-based team after reports emerged that Ferrari’s reserve driver conducted an aggressive test using outdated F1 machinery under track conditions similar to those expected at the upcoming Grand Prix.
Verstappen raised safety concerns, claiming that Ferrari’s approach to the test breached the spirit of fair competition. “It’s getting out of hand,” Verstappen told reporters. “You can’t just simulate race weekends with previous cars and use it to gain an edge. It’s not only unfair, but in some cases, it’s downright dangerous.”
The Red Bull ace was particularly critical of the way Ferrari allegedly pushed the limits by using a modified SF-21 with updated aero packages and tire compounds that mimic current setups. Verstappen suggested that while testing with older cars is permitted under FIA rules, tweaking them to closely resemble current-spec cars could endanger the integrity of the sport and even the safety of drivers unfamiliar with the nuances of modern setups.
Ferrari, however, dismissed the accusations, maintaining that their test was fully within regulatory limits. A team spokesperson stated: “All testing was done according to the regulations. We have nothing to hide. The safety of our drivers and team is always the top priority.”
The FIA has yet to issue an official response but is reportedly reviewing the test data and gathering information to ensure compliance. Tensions between Ferrari and Red Bull have simmered throughout the season, and Verstappen’s strong words may reignite rivalry both on and off the track as the F1 calendar heads into a crucial mid-season stretch.
Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how this situation unfolds
