Max Verstappen Blasts F1 Rival After ‘Dangerous’ I…read more
Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen didn’t hold back following the Monaco Grand Prix, criticizing a fellow driver for what he described as a “dangerous” on-track incident during the iconic street race.
The Dutch driver, who finished outside the podium for only the third time this season, expressed frustration after a close encounter in the narrow confines of the Monte Carlo circuit nearly resulted in a crash.
“That move was completely unnecessary and honestly dangerous,” Verstappen said in a post-race interview. “There’s a fine line between aggressive racing and reckless behavior, and today it was clearly crossed.”
Though Verstappen didn’t initially name the driver in question, speculation quickly centered on Mercedes’ George Russell, following a tense wheel-to-wheel moment at the Nouvelle Chicane. Footage appeared to show Russell cutting across Verstappen under braking, forcing the Red Bull car toward the barriers.
“I had to take evasive action, or we both would’ve ended in the wall,” Verstappen added. “At a place like Monaco, you need respect. We’re racing inches apart.”
Neither driver suffered damage in the incident, but Verstappen’s remarks have reignited discussions about driving standards and race steward consistency, particularly at circuits like Monaco where overtaking is notoriously difficult.
The FIA has not yet announced if further review or penalties will follow, but the flashpoint added to the drama of an otherwise strategic and cautious Grand Prix.
With tensions flaring and the championship battle heating up, all eyes now turn to the next race on the calendar in Canada, where Verstappen will be looking to reclaim momentum—and possibly settle scores.
