Red Bull in the FIA Spotlight at Canadian Grand Prix

Ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Red Bull finds itself under the FIA’s watchful eye—but not for any scandal this time. Japanese rookie Yuki Tsunoda will have his Red Bull RB21 scrutinized during the official car presentation as part of a routine, randomly selected FIA procedure  .

FIA announced that alongside Tsunoda’s car, Alex Albon’s Williams and Esteban Ocon’s Haas will also be included in the Friday scrutiny. This inspection, mandated before media and hospitality showcases, allows the FIA to verify that all vehicles meet technical and safety regulations. In case of poor weather, as currently forecasted with under 5 % chance of rain in Canada, these checks may be moved under cover within the respective team garages  .

Despite the summons, it’s important to stress that neither Tsunoda nor Red Bull are under investigation or suspicion of wrongdoing. The procedure is a standard part of the race weekend protocol and should not be misinterpreted as a sign of any misconduct .

However, the context surrounding team dynamics adds intrigue. After a dismal drop to fourth in the constructors’ standings post-European triple‑header, Red Bull has introduced only minor tweaks to the RB21—mainly a floor adjustment following their new front wing debut in Spain  . With Max Verstappen also targeting a healthy bounce-back, the team is relying on steady, regulatory-compliant performance across both cars.

For Tsunoda, who has struggled since his promotion to Red Bull’s main squad, this weekend represents a critical juncture. Not only will his car be inspected, but he’ll also be grasping for performance improvements, hoping to convert technical upgrades into strong track results  .

In summary: The FIA summons is merely a pre‑race technical check—not a probe or penalty. Red Bull’s challenge now is clear: maximize the spec and steer clear of further distractions as the season heads into its crucial next phase.
