Rodgers Watch: Steelers Await QB Decision as Rudolph Leads OTAs

The Pittsburgh Steelers are at a crossroads as they await a decision from veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who has hinted at a potential move to the team but has yet to make it official. Meanwhile, Mason Rudolph is taking charge during Organized Team Activities (OTAs), demonstrating leadership amid the uncertainty.

Rodgers, 41, recently suggested he might play in Chicago this season—a city the Steelers are set to visit—fueling speculation about his interest in joining Pittsburgh. Despite these hints, Rodgers has not participated in OTAs or minicamps, a pattern reminiscent of his previous offseasons with the Jets and Packers. The Steelers have reportedly offered him a one-year, $10 million contract, with a decision expected by mid-June, aligning with the team’s mandatory minicamp schedule.

In Rodgers’ absence, Rudolph has been leading the team’s quarterback drills. Having returned to Pittsburgh on a two-year, $8 million deal after a season with the Tennessee Titans, Rudolph is embracing his role and focusing on learning the new offensive system. “It’s nothing new to me,” Rudolph said regarding the ongoing rumors. “There’s been constant noise. That is the nature of the NFL, so I’ve been used to that for a long time now.”

Steelers President Art Rooney II has expressed optimism about acquiring Rodgers, stating that “all signs are positive” regarding the potential signing. However, the team is also preparing for the possibility that Rodgers may choose to retire or sign elsewhere. In that case, the Steelers might consider pursuing Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins as an alternative.

As the Steelers continue their offseason preparations, the quarterback situation remains in flux. The team’s leadership is balancing patience with the need for clarity, aiming to solidify their roster ahead of the upcoming season.
