During the session, Lewis Hamilton qualified eighth, just behind his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc in seventh far below expectations for the Scuderia, which had aimed to compete for pole position. Instead, they were surprisingly outperformed by drivers like Yuki Tsunoda in the Racing Bulls and Alex Albon in the Williams. Meanwhile, McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri secured the front row, with Max Verstappen as their closest competitor.

Despite the disappointing results, both McLaren team principal Stella and Mercedes boss Wolff believe Ferrari’s actual pace is stronger than their qualifying performance suggests. Stella noted that while most teams revealed their true speed, Ferrari appeared to be an exception. He expressed confidence that the team is more competitive than their results indicated.

Wolff agreed, emphasizing that Ferrari should not be underestimated. Even though Mercedes’ George Russell secured fourth place, Wolff insisted that Ferrari’s struggles in qualifying were not indicative of their real speed and expected them to improve in future sessions. Sky Sports’ Ted Kravitz pointed out that Stella had made a similar observation, reinforcing the belief that Ferrari would bounce back soon.

Hamilton, despite his confusion over Ferrari’s performance, remains determined to extract the car’s full potential. His dedication and strong work ethic over the winter have been widely praised, giving fans hope that he can help Ferrari recover.

Although Ferrari’s qualifying performance fell short of expectations, experts and team bosses remain confident that they will close the gap in upcoming races, with Stella and Wolff both backing their eventual resurgence.
