Chiefs Win Two Straight Super Bowls Under the Leadership of Son of Former Rangers Pitcher.
When Pat Mahomes Sr. pitched for the Texas Rangers for a single season in 2001, he brought his family back to Texas. At the age of six, Patrick Mahomes II, his kid, was just starting to pursue sports. The former Texas Rangers reliever’s son has now surpassed his father’s baseball achievements even further, having guided the Kansas City Chiefs to victory in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, 25-22 over the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas. Mahomes threw for 333 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the OT victory. In the last two minutes of regulation, he guided the Chiefs to a game-tying field goal. On their opening drive in overtime, they scored the winning touchdown.

In the first overtime, Mahomes won the game with a touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman with three seconds remaining. After graduating from Lindale High School in 1988, Mahomes Sr., a native of Lindale, Texas, was selected in the sixth round by the NFL. In the end, he made his major league debut with the Minnesota Twins in 1992. Prior to the 2001 season, he arrived in Texas as a free agent. In 56 appearances (four starts) over 107 innings with the Rangers, he went 7-6 with a 5.70 ERA, his highest season total since 1994 when he tossed 120 innings with Minnesota.
