The Saarbrücken Congress Hall, a landmark venue in Germany, recently underwent significant renovations, including a major upgrade to its broadcaster’s control room. Saarländischer Rundfunk (SR), the public broadcaster responsible for many of the Hall’s broadcasts, chose to replace its older analog system with modern, IP-based technology, greatly enhancing its production capabilities.

Central to this upgrade is the installation of a **Lawo mc²36 MkII production mixing console** and two **Lawo AoIP stageboxes**. This advanced setup allows SR to handle complex audio tasks, including large orchestral productions, with greater flexibility and efficiency. The mc²36 MkII console, equipped with A__UHD core technology, offers 256 processing channels and supports a variety of industry standards such as ST2110, AES67, and RAVENNA. These features make the system ideal for handling the diverse range of events hosted at the Congress Hall, from concerts to conventions.

The new system also simplifies operations by enabling quick switching between 48 and 96 kHz processing and integrating all audio signals through the AoIP stageboxes. This installation marks SR’s first major step into the IP world, offering a more streamlined and versatile audio production environment. The flexibility of the setup allows for easy reconfiguration, making it suitable for various production needs, including mobile use during festivals.
