This offseason, a number of teams, including the Las Vegas Raiders, have been quite active with their spending. But when the Raiders added defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, who played for the Miami Dolphins the previous season, no team had made a more dramatic addition than the Raiders. The Raiders paid him a lot of money to be among the league’s top five defensive tackles.

The defense that began the previous season was essentially the same as it has been for the past fifteen years: either it is subpar or the attack simply outclasses it. The Raiders concluded the season as a top-five team after Antonio Pierce took over and gave defensive coordinator Patrick Graham the freedom to call the defense as he wanted it done.

During his first news conference, Wilkins stated, “Vegas is obviously a great city, a great place.” “There are many reasons to be happy, including Coach Pierce’s enthusiasm and the accomplishments the club made in the latter part of the season when he took over. There are plenty of fantastic teammates and reasons to be enthusiastic about.

“I wanted to come here for one very important reason, and that is number 98 [Crosby].” It’s clear that he is a fantastic player. I’m thrilled to be his teammate because I have a great deal of regard for the man, his character, and his style of play. And many additional men, simply by observing the defense and gaining access

You know, those men and the people that are here today are just kind of having a little fun with them too.”

the league’s defense.

People will undoubtedly want to start playing for the Raiders after they had success the previous season, signed Antonio Pierce as their full-time head coach, and removed the interim tag. But there are further explanations for that as well. Wilkins disclosed his reasoning for selecting Vegas, answering the same questions that are posed to every free agency signing.
