Ryan Donato, a forward, was re-signed by the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday to a one-year, $1.2 million contract. Prior to this, the team had declined to extend an offer to him as a restricted free agency.
Donato was one of the Krakens’ offensive standouts in their first season. In terms of total games played (74), goals (16), and assists (15), Donato set career highs in each category. Donato has the fourth-most goals (16) and sixth-most points (31) for the Kraken.
Additionally, Donato scored the first goal in the history of the team during Seattle’s opening game versus Vegas.
Unexpectedly, Donato was absent when Seattle made the announcement before free agency began of which restricted free agents were given contracts for the 2022–2023 season. Ron Francis, the general manager, stated earlier that
month that Donato was entitled to arbitration, which prompted the first choice to decline an agreement.
Francis stated on July 13 that “he had a hell of a season last year and to be honest, we just didn’t want to go to arbitration with him.” “So that explains why we weren’t eligible (him). We will keep having conversations there since we like the player.
