Watch the opposition: Spurs vs. Everton in the Women’s Super League

When Spurs Women return to Women’s Super League action against Everton at Orient’s Brisbane Road on Sunday at 2 p.m., we want to continue where we left off before the international break. A closer look of The Toffees is seen here.

Although that doesn’t tell the whole story, Everton has only won one of their four WSL games thus far. Even though they were defeated 5-0 by Manchester United the last time out, two of the losses (Brighton 1-2, Leicester 0-1) have come from the odd goal in games when they should have been rewarded. The one win, on October 15, at Anfield against Mersey rivals Liverpool by a score of 1-0, with Megan Finnigan scoring the game’s winning goal, was noteworthy nonetheless.

Megan Finnigan scores the game-winning goal for Everton versus Liverpool at Anfield in the Merseyside derby.

Winner of the Mersey Derby match One-club player Megan Finnigan was given the captain’s armband before to the current campaign. Having joined the team at the age of nine, she has the longest tenure at the club. Her mobility allows her to play in central midfield, but she has cemented herself at the center of the Toffees defense. Before having successful stints at City, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid, Toni Duggan rose through the Everton ranks and helped them win the 2009–10 Women’s FA Cup. She returned to Everton in July 2021, having won eight more domestic trophies. She has 76 caps for England. Striker Martina Piemonte, who has been captained by Italy eighteen times, came from Milan this summer, having netted fourteen goals in twenty-four games for the Rossonere the previous year.

Supervisor: Brian Sorensen
After two successful stints at Fortuna Hjorring, where he won two league titles, a domestic cup, and established Fortuna as a regular in the Champions League knockout stages, Brian Sorensen joined Everton Women as manager in April of 2022. In his first season last season, he guided Everton to sixth place in the WSL. Previously, Sorensen had cup success while playing for FC Nordsjaelland and IK Skovbakken, two Danish teams.

Our last encounter against Everton proved to be a bitter pill to swallow as we lost in the third minute of extra time at Walton Hall Park, despite our best efforts to finish last in the WSL. Nicoline Sorensen had opened the scoring early, and Eveliina Summanen had pulled even for us, but Aggie Beever-Jones won it in spectacular fashion for the home team. Fortunately, we managed to escape difficulty with victories over Reading and Villa as well as draws with Brighton.
