In advance of the January transfer window, Kalvin Phillips has acknowledged that he is considering his options.

The midfielder, who joined Manchester City from Leeds United in the summer of 2022 for up to £45 million, is a fringe player at the club. Just 26 appearances have been made by Phillips for City, five of them came this year. Pep Guardiola, the manager of the Etihad, chose 18-year-old Rico Lewis over Rodri in the engine room for the 1-0 loss to Arsenal in the Premier League despite Rodri’s absence due to suspension.

Phillips has kept his spot in the England squad despite his lack of game-time, however. He started last night’s 3-1 victory over Italy which ensured the Three Lions qualified for the 2024 European Championships.

Phillips has been linked with a move away from Treble winners City when the transfer market opens in two and a half months due to his lack of opportunities there. The 27-year-old has been connected with Everton, Newcastle United, West Ham, and Bayern Munich, among other teams.

Speaking after Italy’s victory, Phillips acknowledged that he has spoken with Gareth Southgate and that if he wants to be a key player for England in the Euros, he needs to be playing frequently.

He stated, according to the BBC, “I know that I need to be playing games and competing every weekend.”Over the upcoming months, I’ll have to decide what [my future] will be. Gareth Southgate merely asserts that I must be playing games in order to maintain my position.
