Everton defender is “ruled out” of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Chelsea this Sunday.
Ben Dinnery reports that Everton defender Seamus Coleman is “ruled out” of Sunday’s Premier League matchup against Chelsea.
After recently returned from a long-term injury hiatus, the Toffees veteran has now sustained a muscular ailment, according to The Injury Expert, who revealed this on his Premier Injuries Twitter account on December 8.
But in the 65th minute, Nathan Patterson took the player’s position, withdrawing the 35-year-old.
If Coleman is actually ruled out of Sunday’s game, it would be a huge setback for the Toffees again after he missed months of action due to a knee injury in May.
On Wednesday night, the Goodison Park stalwart put on a strong display against Newcastle, stifling former Toffees player Anthony Gordon.
Given the recent point penalty, Coleman’s experience and expertise are critical at this time, and his performance against Newcastle demonstrated these attributes amply.
Coleman completed 100% of his dribbles, won 100% of his duels, and made three clearances, according to SofaScore, as the Toffees recorded another vital clean sheet against a dominant Newcastle squad.
When he entered the game against the Magpies, Patterson performed admirably, setting up Beto’s first Premier League goal. If he maintains his starting position against Chelsea on Sunday, Patterson will be a capable backup.
Dyche will be praying, though, that Coleman’s injury is not too severe.
