Everton informed the “special” target they may decline the move in January for a single reason.
In the January transfer window, Wilfried Gnonto now appears certain to turn down Everton.
That’s according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who asserts that the winger’s decision to stay at Leeds United might be influenced by “many variables.”
Following Chelsea’s victory, Thomas Tuchel praises N’Golo Kante as “unique” and “fantastic.”
Following his six goal-contribution in his Premier League debut, Everton launched a full-scale summer pursuit of Wilfried Gnonto.
Throughout the transfer window, a number of teams were linked to the “special” Italian; however, a proposal of £25 million was rejected by the Toffees to sign him.
On several occasions, Everton appeared to be quite close to signing Gnonto, particularly after he submitted a transfer request at Elland Road.
Gnonto later rejoined the Whites, but he was unable to secure a promotion back to the top division.
The 20-year-old’s January transfer to Sean Dyche’s team is reportedly still on the table, despite a somewhat disastrous summer transfer story.
Ben Jacobs has provided an explanation for why Gnonto is probably going to rule out leaving Leeds before the summer.
“I think that from Gnonto’s point of view, he would be the same as well [wanting to see what the future at Leeds holds],” Jacobs stated in an interview with GIVEMESPORT. Even though Everton, with whom he was most heavily linked, has had a very good start to the season, leaving midseason to join a Premier League club means you never know where you will wind up come playoff time.
Moreover, you are unsure of Leeds’s final-season position. Gnonto detested his life at Leeds and was unwilling to relocate to Everton. He did it because he desired to be a Premier League player. So, if you transfer to a top-tier club in the middle of the season, who knows if you’ll still be playing in the Premier League come season’s end? Additionally, if you stick with Leeds, they might get promoted, which would put you in the Premier League the next season. Therefore, there are just too many moving parts for Leeds and Gnonto to decide hastily what will happen to him in January.
There won’t be any question about whether he will stay at Leeds if they are promoted when the season comes to a close and he is still playing. It will be an entirely different story if they are not promoted.
