Everton is pursuing a defender from Lyon.
Everton is reportedly interested in Olympique Lyonnais defender Jake O’Brien (22), who only joined the team for €1 million from Crystal Palace in the summer, according to Foot Mercato.
This season, there isn’t much cause for optimism at Lyon. The team has only won one game this season and is currently dead last in Ligue 1. O’Brien, though, has undoubtedly been a bright spark. With three goals in Ligue 1, the Ireland U21 international is tied for the club lead in scoring with three goals from Alexandre Lacazette. Lyon has scored three goals in their last three games.
Although he arrived at the Groupama Stadium in August, it was anticipated that he would go on loan to gain more first-team experience, therefore his performances have surprised some. But he made an immediate impression on Laurent Blanc, the manager at the time, before Fabio Grosso solidified his starting spot.
The Premier League is now showing interest in O’Brien; Everton in particular has been keeping tabs on the center back. The player is content at Lyon, though, and the team—which is fighting to survive in Ligue 1—appears hesitant to allow a valuable player depart in January.
