Ex-WR for the Eagles: If the NFL hadn’t blackballed me, I could be playing at 50.

Terrell Owens, a former wide receiver for the Eagles, looks fit enough to play in the NFL at 50 years old: Too many sit-ups in the driveway, I suppose. In addition, Owens claims he could still be playing professional ball if it weren’t for the self-destructive lunacy that he encountered both during his time in uniform and virtually every day after retiring.

“It all depends on the state you place yourself in,” Owens stated to USA TODAY during the Super Bowl on Saturday. “I can now tend to my body properly.

Consider how many games in the playoffs are decided by third down conversions and, of course, red zone circumstances. Is it possible for me to play 70 snaps right now? Not at all. However, if I were a member of the team, I would definitely be a feasible alternative. Putting that absurdity aside, it’s significant to remember that Owens attributes his 2010 NFL game playing experience to the NFL, not to himself. In addition to his declining abilities, Owens’ diva drama—disruptive remarks and attention-grabbing actions—wore out front offices and coaches. This was a genetic trait.

As a six-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro, Owens caught 1,078 receptions for 15,934 yards and 153 touchdowns while playing for the San Francisco 49ers, Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, and Cincinnati Bengals.

According to Owens, “you get blackballed and many organizations don’t think well of you.”

Although Owens didn’t stay with the Eagles for very long, he did contribute to their victory in Super Bowl XXXIX. Before being let go, he was only involved in 21 games throughout the regular season.
