Examining the 49ers Coaching Staff in Detail

Many would have argued that Shanahan is one of the best coaches in history and that the 49ers were among the greatest teams ever if they had won the Super Bowl this season. Before the season was even halfway over, people were drawing comparisons between the club and the Super Bowl-winning 1994 49ers and speculating as to whether the 2023 49ers were superior. After leading by ten points in the Super Bowl, they eventually lost. Which raises the question of whether Shanahan will ever win a Super Bowl if he is unable to do so with a squad that had a chance to contend for the title of greatest team ever? Or does he not have what it takes to win the biggest game? As of right now, he appears unable.

Coordinator of Defence
It’s kind of astonishing that the 49ers still don’t have one on this Sunday, February 25. There’s a lot of conjecture that the 49ers will provide an internal promotion, so why the delay? It’s unlikely that the defensive coordinator after Wilks will be any better, but perhaps the players will come to terms and play with intensity, which would be a significant improvement over the previous campaign.

Brian Schneider
He oversees special teams, and during the Super Bowl, they performed horribly. First, under pressure, Jake Moody missed another kick, this time an important extra point. Recall that Schneider claimed to have worked out Moody prior to the draft and found the young kicker to be exceptional under duress. Oh no. The 49ers lost seven points in the Super Bowl as a result of Schneider’s subsequent apparent failure to adequately remind punt returner Ray Ray McCloud to fall on a loose ball rather than try to scoop and run with it. A new special teams coordinator is required for the 49ers.
