Exclusive: Millwall in talks with Celtic to fast-track D… Read More πŸ‘‡

Millwall and Celtic are in discussions to expedite Daniel Kelly’s transfer to England, aiming for a move this summer rather than in January, according to sources from Football Insider. Millwall, currently a Championship side, had previously secured a pre-contract agreement with the 18-year-old midfielder. This deal was set for January, immediately after Kelly’s contract with Celtic concludes at the end of December. However, Millwall is now pushing to bring Kelly over five months earlier.

If both clubs reach an agreement, Kelly could make the switch to Millwall within this transfer window, allowing him to start his career in England and integrate into the team sooner. This early move would give Kelly more time to adapt and potentially make an impact in the Championship under Millwall’s manager, Neil Harris.

Kelly has already shown promise in the current season, having played four matches for Celtic’s B team in the Lowland League, where he scored twice and assisted once. Millwall’s desire to bring Kelly into their squad as soon as possible is driven by their mixed start to the season. The team began their Championship campaign with a 3-2 loss to Watford but bounced back with a win in the EFL Cup. Harris believes that adding Kelly to the squad sooner rather than later could strengthen the team and help them in the early stages of the season.

Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Celtic, has publicly stated that Kelly will not be included in the first-team squad due to the ongoing contract issues. This situation suggests that Kelly is unlikely to feature for Celtic in the remaining months of his contract. Rodgers’ handling of Kelly has sparked criticism among Celtic fans, with some accusing him of being manipulative. Despite these tensions, Kelly has demonstrated his abilities on the pitch, having scored one goal in six first-team appearances for Celtic.

As a Scotland Under-19 international, Kelly’s potential is well-recognized, and Millwall sees him as a valuable addition to their squad. The ongoing negotiations between Millwall and Celtic are crucial, as an agreement would allow Kelly to join the English side immediately, giving him the chance to develop further and contribute to the team’s efforts in the Championship this season.
