After an electrifying Saturday at the Miami International Autodrome, the stage is set for Round 6 of the 2025 Formula 1 season — the Miami Grand Prix. Despite a challenging sprint race that saw him penalized for an unsafe release into Kimi Antonelli’s path, Max Verstappen bounced back to claim pole position in the main qualifying session.
The Red Bull driver’s lap of 1:26.204 secured his third pole of the season, holding off a competitive challenge from McLaren’s Lando Norris, who was just 0.065 seconds behind. Verstappen’s recovery highlighted his adaptability under pressure, especially after serving a 10-second penalty earlier in the day.
Kimi Antonelli put on a stunning performance for Mercedes, clocking a time that edged him into P3 and splitting the two McLarens. His effort also outpaced his teammate George Russell in both qualifying rounds. Oscar Piastri, despite showing strong form in the sprint race, had to settle for P4.
Russell completes the top five, followed by the Williams duo of Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon, who continue to show strong pace this season. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc could only manage P8, while Esteban Ocon of Haas and Yuki Tsunoda in the second Red Bull rounded out the top 10.
Further down the order, veterans like Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso struggled in qualifying, with Hamilton eliminated in Q2 and Alonso falling out in Q1. Rookies like Gabriel Bortoleto and Ollie Bearman also found themselves outside the top 10 after failing to make it past the early sessions.
