Andretti OFFICIALLY steps aside on choosing Cadillac’s… read more.

In a surprising turn of events, Andretti Global has reportedly stepped back from making the final decision on Cadillac’s driver lineup for their potential entry into Formula 1. The decision marks a notable shift in the power dynamics between the two partners as they continue their push to join the grid.

Sources close to the matter suggest that General Motors, Cadillac’s parent company, has taken a more active role in shaping the future of the team. While Andretti remains a key operational partner, GM appears to be asserting its influence on critical team decisions starting with the choice of drivers.

This development comes amid increasing speculation about who might be selected to represent the new team if their bid is approved by Formula 1 and the FIA. Earlier, Andretti was believed to have a shortlist of drivers with both experience and youth, including several from their IndyCar and Formula E programs. However, with Cadillac now holding more sway, the criteria may shift toward drivers with more global recognition or ties to the American market.

Michael Andretti, head of the Andretti outfit, has yet to comment publicly on the matter, but insiders indicate that the move was made to preserve the strength of the partnership and increase the bid’s chances of success.

As Formula 1 continues to grow in popularity in the United States, a Cadillac-backed team could serve as a major boost for American involvement in the sport provided the right decisions are made.
