Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher has openly criticized Ferrari, accusing the team of “incompetence” following the disqualification of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc from the Chinese Grand Prix. The race, held on Sunday, was marred by controversy as both drivers were penalized for technical infringements.
Hamilton, driving for Mercedes, and Leclerc, representing Ferrari, initially secured strong finishes. However, a post-race inspection revealed that both cars failed to meet the technical regulations, leading to their disqualifications. The specific violations have not been detailed, but they reportedly involved irregularities in the car’s setup or components.
Schumacher didn’t hold back in his assessment of Ferrari’s performance. “These kinds of mistakes are unacceptable at this level of competition,” he remarked during a televised interview. He suggested that Ferrari’s inability to ensure compliance with the rules reflects poorly on their management and engineering teams.
The disqualification dealt a significant blow to Ferrari, which has been striving to close the gap with Red Bull and Mercedes. For Leclerc, it was a bitter outcome after a strong on-track performance.
This incident also highlighted the rigorous scrutiny teams face in Formula 1. While technical regulations are complex, Schumacher emphasized that adhering to them is fundamental to maintaining the integrity of the sport.
Ferrari has yet to respond to Schumacher’s comments but is expected to investigate the issue internally. The team’s focus will now shift to ensuring no further missteps in upcoming races.
