Following his second-place finish at the 2025 Japanese Grand Prix, Lando Norris’ McLaren MCL39 underwent a thorough post-race inspection by the FIA. The car was randomly selected as part of the sport’s routine checks on top-10 finishers to ensure compliance with technical regulations.
As outlined in the official FIA report, both fuel and engine oil samples were extracted from Norris’ car. Tests were conducted to analyze their density and viscosity, with results confirming that all components adhered to Formula 1’s regulatory standards.
With no issues found, Norris’ result stands, securing his runner-up spot behind race winner Max Verstappen, while teammate Oscar Piastri completed the podium in third.
McLaren had been tipped as the team to beat heading into the weekend, but a brilliant qualifying lap by Verstappen denied them pole and ultimately gave Red Bull the edge on race day. Although Norris showed strong pace, he was unable to challenge Verstappen for the lead, stuck in turbulent air and struggling to close the gap on a circuit where overtaking is notoriously difficult.
Verstappen showcased his champion pedigree, controlling the race with clean driving and consistent pace, despite his Red Bull lacking the outright speed of the McLarens. The victory marked his first of the season and fourth in a row at Suzuka.
With three different winners in as many races this season, the 2025 championship battle is wide open. Norris retains a slim one-point lead over Verstappen in the standings, setting the stage for an intense fight in the races to come.
