Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari SF-25 was placed under scrutiny by the FIA following the Italian Grand Prix, stirring memories of an earlier controversy that had once landed Mercedes in trouble. The governing body inspected the British driver’s car after suspicions arose around the same issue that had caused difficulties for Hamilton and George Russell back in 2024, when both men were still teammates at Mercedes.
At the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix, Mercedes had been penalised for irregularities involving tyre pressures, resulting in a €10,000 fine. That penalty came as a bitter blow during a season in which Hamilton was already facing challenges, and the incident became one of the most talked-about infractions of the year. With the Ferrari home crowd at Monza this time watching closely, the FIA opted to re-examine Hamilton’s car to ensure that the rules had been properly followed.
Fortunately for Ferrari and Hamilton, the inspection brought a different outcome. The FIA confirmed that the tyre pressures on Hamilton’s SF-25 were in full compliance with the regulations, allowing the official race results to stand without alteration. Similar inspections were also carried out on Kimi Antonelli’s Mercedes and Alex Albon’s Williams, and both cars were likewise found to be within legal limits.
Despite being cleared, the episode highlighted just how closely Hamilton’s performances are now being monitored. The seven-time champion is under immense pressure at Ferrari, particularly given the expectations of the tifosi, who demand results on home soil. The lack of a podium finish so far in his debut campaign with the Scuderia has intensified the spotlight.
Hamilton’s drive at Monza, however, was not without merit. Starting from a lower grid position, he surged through the field with determination, gaining four positions in the opening seven laps. His race pace was strong, and he eventually crossed the line just 12 seconds behind teammate Charles Leclerc. While the result showcased his resilience and ability to extract pace from the SF-25, the Italian fans had hoped to see at least one Ferrari driver on the podium at their home race.
Currently, Hamilton sits sixth in the drivers’ standings, trailing Leclerc by 46 points. That gap underlines the challenge he faces in adapting quickly to life at Ferrari and finding the consistency that once made him the dominant force of Formula 1. His failure to secure a podium so far is a rare statistic for a driver of his calibre, and one that he will be desperate to correct as the season progresses.
Nevertheless, Hamilton’s Monza performance hinted at progress. His aggressive overtaking, combined with steady race management, suggests that he is gradually coming to terms with the SF-25. While Ferrari have shown flashes of competitiveness, they remain just short of the consistency needed to challenge Red Bull and McLaren at the very front of the field.
For Hamilton, the FIA inspection may have been a brief distraction, but the bigger picture is clear: he must deliver a podium — and soon — to appease Ferrari’s faithful. With more high-pressure races ahead, the coming weeks will prove whether the veteran can turn his promising drives into the kind of results that define champions.
