F1 News Today: McLaren announce change to BOTH cars as star star suffer cr…read more

As the excitement builds ahead of the 82nd edition of the Monaco Grand Prix, McLaren has announced updates to both of its Formula 1 cars. These changes are designed to boost performance on the notoriously tricky Monte Carlo street circuit, where precision and control are crucial for success. McLaren’s latest developments reflect both a technical response to evolving regulations and a tribute to one of the sport’s legends.

One of the most eye-catching adjustments comes in the form of a special livery, introduced as a tribute to Ayrton Senna. To honor the memory of the three-time world champion and commemorate the 30th anniversary of his passing, both McLaren cars will sport colors inspired by Senna’s iconic helmet — vibrant shades of yellow, green, and blue. This livery not only celebrates Senna’s enduring legacy but also aims to inspire the team and fans during one of the most prestigious races on the calendar.

On the technical side, McLaren has implemented structural changes to comply with new FIA regulations targeting front-wing flexing. These upcoming rules are set to be enforced by the time of the Spanish Grand Prix, and McLaren has taken early action to adapt. According to Team Principal Andrea Stella, the team has modified the front wing construction to ensure it meets the new flexibility standards, though he remains optimistic that these changes won’t hinder the car’s on-track performance.

Despite these preparations, McLaren faced some drama during the Monaco practice sessions. Oscar Piastri, the young driver currently enjoying a strong season, suffered a crash during free practice. However, he bounced back impressively, setting the second-fastest time in the second session — just 0.038 seconds behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. His teammate, Lando Norris, also encountered challenges on the demanding circuit, though both drivers are expected to push hard during qualifying and the race itself.

This year’s Monaco Grand Prix also features a new twist: teams must now use all three tire compounds throughout the race, meaning at least two pit stops will be mandatory. The rule change is intended to shake up race strategy and make the event more unpredictable, which could play into the hands of teams like McLaren who are quick to adapt.

With bold design changes, regulatory compliance, and a determined driver lineup, McLaren enters the Monaco Grand Prix weekend with confidence and ambition. The team will be hoping their upgrades and dedication pay off with a strong result on the streets of Monte Carlo.
