F1 News Today: Red Bull Sets Modest ‘Maximum Aim’ for F1 Opener After…read more
Red Bull faces an uphill battle at the Formula 1 season opener after encountering unexpected difficulties during Friday’s practice sessions. The reigning champions struggled with car balance and setup issues, forcing them to reassess their expectations for the weekend. As a result, the team has set a more conservative “maximum aim” for the race, acknowledging that their usual dominance may not be guaranteed.
Both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez reported handling concerns during practice, with the RB20 appearing less stable than anticipated. While the team managed to gather crucial data, their lap times suggested they might not have the same advantage they enjoyed in previous seasons. Rivals, including Ferrari and Mercedes, looked competitive, adding further pressure on Red Bull to find solutions before qualifying.
Speaking about the team’s struggles, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner admitted that Friday was more challenging than expected. “We have some issues to address, and we’re working hard to optimize the setup. We know where we need to improve, but it’s clear that this weekend won’t be as straightforward as some might have expected.”
Verstappen, who is aiming for his fourth consecutive title, also acknowledged the difficulties but remained hopeful. “It wasn’t the smoothest day, but we’ll analyze everything overnight. The competition looks strong, so we need to maximize every opportunity in qualifying and the race.”
With Red Bull lowering its initial expectations, the F1 opener is shaping up to be more competitive than anticipated. If the team fails to recover fully, it could open the door for Ferrari, Mercedes, or even Aston Martin to challenge them at the front. All eyes will be on Red Bull’s response as they attempt to turn their Friday struggles into a stronger race performance.
