F1 NEWS: Williams Under FIA Investigation Over Missing…read more

Williams is facing scrutiny from the FIA at the Chinese Grand Prix after allegedly failing to comply with a technical directive requiring teams to submit mandatory wing footage.

FIA Probes Williams for Non-Compliance

As part of F1’s crackdown on flexi-wings, the FIA recently introduced stricter regulations mandating that all teams install high-resolution cameras on their cars to monitor front and rear wing flexing. Under Technical Directive TD034L, teams must submit video recordings from these cameras within one hour of the first free practice session’s conclusion.

However, FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer has reported that Williams did not provide the required footage within the specified timeframe. As a result, the team has been summoned by the stewards, with a hearing scheduled for 8:30 AM local time on Saturday.

Possible Repercussions for Williams

The FIA has taken a firm stance on enforcing flexi-wing regulations, aiming to prevent teams from exploiting excessive wing movement for aerodynamic advantages. If Williams is found to have breached the directive, they could face penalties, which may include fines or potential sporting consequences.

On-Track Performance: Mixed Results for Williams

Despite their off-track troubles, Williams had a mixed performance in sprint qualifying. Alex Albon secured a strong ninth-place starting position, while new teammate Carlos Sainz struggled and qualified 13th.

Sainz, who joined Williams for the 2025 season, admitted he is still adjusting to the car’s handling. Following his elimination in SQ2, the four-time Grand Prix winner highlighted ongoing issues, including discomfort in the seat and difficulties extracting optimal performance. He remains hopeful that additional mileage will improve his adaptation and that he can deliver a stronger result in the upcoming sessions.

As the weekend unfolds, Williams will be looking to resolve their regulatory issues while focusing on improving their competitive standing at the Shanghai International Circuit.
