Lewis Hamilton has unleashed a scathing response to Helmut Marko’s recent jabs about his performance, telling the Red Bull advisor in no uncertain terms that he doesn’t need validation from anyone, especially not from someone who isn’t driving the car.
Marko had criticized Hamilton’s ability to compete at the highest level, insinuating that the seven-time world champion is past his prime and no longer capable of challenging for titles. Hamilton, however, didn’t mince words in his retaliation, calling out the criticism as nothing more than baseless chatter from the sidelines.
“Marko can say whatever he wants. I’m not here to please him or anyone else,” Hamilton fired back during a media session. “I don’t need anyone’s approval, least of all his. I’ve already proven everything I need to prove. My results speak for themselves.”
The Briton didn’t hold back in defending his legacy, making it clear that his track record, which includes seven world championships and countless race victories, is more than enough to silence any doubters. “What has he achieved in comparison? I’m a driver, not an armchair critic. If you want to talk about performance, talk to me when you’re in the car, not from a desk. I’ll let my racing do the talking,” Hamilton snapped.
Hamilton also emphasized his fierce dedication to the sport, suggesting that Marko’s comments were an attempt to undermine him in a desperate bid to distract from Red Bull’s dominance. “I’m still hungry, still motivated, and I’ll keep fighting until the end. If people want to talk trash about me, that’s their problem, but they’ll never stop me from doing what I love.”
Marko’s recent remarks came after a challenging 2023 season for Hamilton and Mercedes, with the team struggling to match the might of Red Bull. However, Hamilton’s unyielding determination has left many questioning the credibility of such attacks, with his fierce will to compete continuing to shine through.
“Keep running your mouth, Helmut. I’ll keep racing,” Hamilton concluded, making it clear that his focus remains unshaken despite the noise from his critics. With the 2024 season approaching, it’s clear Hamilton is ready to prove he’s far from finished and intends to keep fighting for every race win and championship until the day he decides to hang up his helmet.
