Former Ferrari team principal Jean Todt has weighed in on the debate over whether Lewis Hamilton is a better choice for the Scuderia than Carlos Sainz. With Hamilton set to join Ferrari in 2025, replacing Sainz, speculation has been growing about how the seven-time world champion will perform in red.

Speaking in a recent interview, Todt acknowledged Sainz’s contributions to the team but suggested that Hamilton’s experience and record make him an exciting addition. “Carlos is a fantastic driver and has proven himself, but Lewis brings something unique. His experience, leadership, and ability to extract the best from a team could be a game-changer for Ferrari,” Todt said.

Sainz, who won the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix and consistently challenged teammate Charles Leclerc, has been a strong performer for Ferrari. However, the allure of Hamilton’s expertise and potential to lead Ferrari back to championship glory was too tempting for the team to ignore.

Todt also noted that success at Ferrari depends on more than just the driver. “Hamilton can bring a lot, but Ferrari also needs to provide him with a car capable of winning titles,” he emphasized.

With Hamilton’s arrival, Ferrari will have a star-studded lineup, but whether he can end their title drought remains to be seen. As the 2024 season unfolds, all eyes will be on Sainz and how he responds to being replaced by one of the sport’s greatest drivers.
