Red Bull Racing has officially confirmed Liam Lawson’s next career step following months of speculation, as former four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel is set to return to Formula 1 in a surprise development. In a joint statement issued today, Red Bull announced that Lawson, who impressed during his stand-in races for AlphaTauri, will take on a full-time seat with the team’s sister outfit starting from the upcoming F1 season.
The 21-year-old New Zealander gained recognition after stepping in for Daniel Ricciardo last season, delivering a series of solid performances that captured the attention of Red Bull’s top brass. His promotion to a permanent F1 role comes as part of a strategic reshuffle within the Red Bull program.
Simultaneously, Red Bull revealed that Sebastian Vettel will make a sensational return to Formula 1 as a key member of Red Bull Racing. Although initially retired at the end of 2022, Vettel has reportedly been lured back by Red Bull’s long-term vision, which aims to integrate his experience and leadership both on and off the track.
“We’re thrilled to officially welcome Liam to the AlphaTauri race seat and to have Sebastian back in the Red Bull family,” said Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner. “This combination of youthful energy and proven expertise strengthens our driver lineup for the future.”
With Lawson’s ascension and Vettel’s return, Red Bull has cemented its ambitions for sustained success, signaling a dynamic new chapter for both drivers and the team.
