McLaren set to launch ‘very extreme’ MCL39 for F1 2025 – report
As the 2025 Formula 1 season approaches, both Ferrari and McLaren are regarded as the top contenders for the Constructors’ Championship. However, both teams are planning major revisions to their cars in a bid to stay ahead of the competition. Reports suggest that McLaren, in particular, is making “very significant” changes to their design. After securing the 2024 World Constructors’ Championship, the Woking-based team is aiming to make a radical shift from the design language that helped them achieve that success. This is not a strategy unique to McLaren, as Ferrari is also looking to make sweeping adjustments to their F1 2025 machines.
In a recent pre-season report from Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport, it was revealed that both McLaren and Ferrari are working on their 2025 cars with an eye on the F1 2026 regulations. With the significant technical changes coming in 2026—such as new power unit specifications, and revisions to car elements like aerodynamics and suspension—the two teams believe that they can align their designs to take advantage of these upcoming changes. Both Ferrari and McLaren have reportedly found enough similarities between the current rules and the 2026 regulations to start implementing future technology into their cars this year
