F1 Results Today: Lewis Hamilton launches stellar comeback as…read
Lewis Hamilton made a spectacular return to form at the Imola Grand Prix, staging a determined fightback after a difficult start to the weekend. Despite struggling in qualifying and failing to progress to Q3, the seven-time world champion delivered an outstanding drive to finish fourth – his best result so far this season. Hamilton’s performance was one of the standout stories of the race, as he surged through the field in the closing stages to secure vital points for Mercedes.
The weekend had not begun well for Hamilton or Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, as both drivers were surprisingly knocked out during the second round of qualifying. That set the stage for a challenging race day, but Hamilton was undeterred. After lining up outside the top 10, he gradually made his way through the pack and showed vintage skill and composure in the final laps. Overtaking Alex Albon and later Leclerc, Hamilton secured fourth place and dedicated his impressive drive to the passionate Italian fans – the tifosi – who had come out in large numbers to support their favorite drivers.
Meanwhile, the race victory went to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who once again proved why he remains the man to beat in Formula 1. At the start, Verstappen made an aggressive move at the Tamburello chicane, overtaking McLaren’s Oscar Piastri with a confident late-braking maneuver that gave him control of the race from Lap 1 onward. From there, the Dutch driver managed his pace and maintained his lead throughout the race, showing the kind of consistency and dominance that has defined much of his recent form.
McLaren had hoped to continue their strong run of performances, especially after Piastri’s promising qualifying session. But the British team ultimately couldn’t hold off Verstappen’s early charge. Despite this, Piastri managed to finish on the podium, highlighting the progress McLaren has made in recent months. His teammate, Lando Norris, also had a solid race, staying in the fight near the front and showing that McLaren remains a serious contender this season.
Ferrari, on the other hand, faced another disappointing outing on home soil. Leclerc, who had strong support from the home crowd, couldn’t make a significant impact during the race. He struggled with pace and couldn’t hold off Hamilton’s late charge, eventually finishing behind the Mercedes driver. Carlos Sainz, Ferrari’s second driver, had a relatively quiet race and failed to challenge for the podium.
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff praised Hamilton’s resilience and strong race pace, calling his drive “a classic Lewis performance.” The team has faced criticism in recent weeks for its inconsistent results, but Hamilton’s fourth-place finish offered a much-needed morale boost. George Russell, however, couldn’t match his teammate’s pace and ended up finishing further down the order.
As the championship battle continues, Verstappen has extended his lead at the top of the standings, while teams like McLaren and Mercedes continue to look for opportunities to close the gap. The Imola Grand Prix provided plenty of action, and Hamilton’s comeback reminded fans and rivals alike that the veteran still has plenty left in the tank.
The next race will see the paddock head to Monaco, where qualifying will be critical due to the street circuit’s tight layout. With the competition heating up and multiple teams now in the mix, fans can expect more drama and excitement as the season progresses. For now, though, it’s Verstappen who leaves Imola as the man on top, while Hamilton departs with renewed confidence after a weekend that tested – and proved – his enduring class.
