Max Verstappen endured a miserable FP2 at the Canadian Grand Prix, as F1 star Lance Stroll suffered an embarrassing crash early on in the session.

Max Verstappen’s rough start to the Canadian Grand Prix weekend continued as he endured a disappointing second practice session (FP2) on Friday in Montreal, finishing only ninth after topping the charts earlier in FP1. Meanwhile, local favorite Lance Stroll suffered an early and embarrassing exit from FP2 after crashing into the barriers, cutting his session short and leaving him without a recorded time.

Verstappen had initially looked strong, leading the field in FP1 with a time of 1:13.193. However, his Red Bull struggled to maintain pace in the second session, falling behind both Williams drivers and Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin. The reigning world champion’s Friday ended on a sour note, raising questions about Red Bull’s pace heading into the rest of the weekend.

Adding to the drama, Canadian driver Lance Stroll made his return after missing the Spanish Grand Prix due to a wrist injury. However, his homecoming was marred by a costly mistake at Turn 7 during FP2. Stroll understeered into the wall, destroying the front-left corner of his Aston Martin. Though he had space to avoid the crash, he failed to react in time and was unable to set a lap time.

The day was turbulent for several top contenders. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc endured a crash 15 minutes into FP1, locking up and slamming into the barriers at the second chicane. The incident brought out a red flag and forced Leclerc out of the session. Later, Ferrari confirmed he would also miss FP2 as his team worked on a new chassis that must be cleared by the FIA before he can return—leaving him sidelined until at least Saturday.

Lewis Hamilton also had a difficult day. The seven-time world champion spun at the Turn 10 hairpin in FP1 but managed to avoid the barriers. He finished FP1 in fifth and FP2 in eighth, trailing the leaders and looking for answers as Ferrari continues to search for consistency.

McLaren had a split day, struggling in FP1 but improving markedly in FP2. Lando Norris climbed to second behind Mercedes’ George Russell, who topped the time sheets in the later session with an impressive 1:12.123. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri also recovered well, placing sixth in FP2.

Elsewhere, Mercedes newcomer Kimi Antonelli impressed with a strong P3 performance, while both Williams drivers—Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz—continued to show competitive pace across both sessions. Red Bull’s reserve team, Racing Bulls, saw solid mid-field performances from Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar.
