Breaking as F1 teams has given a 2014 Mercedes warni…see more
Andy Cowell, Aston Martin team principal, has highlighted his efforts to motivate his team in order to propel them into championship contention. The Silvestone-based team has had a rough 2025 season to date, finishing seventh in the constructors’ rankings. Aston Martin has hired famed automotive designer Adrian Newey to lead the team’s technical department. However, Newey is focusing his entire attention on the 2026 challenger, which is being developed under a completely new set of technical regulations.
Cowell, who took over as squad head at Aston Martin earlier this year, indicated that he is working to unite all team members and partners behind a common goal. “It’s about bringing everybody together,” Cowell told Sky F1. “It’s about knowing the systems that comprise a race car and ensuring that everyone knows what their piece of the puzzle is. “Everybody sets tough, demanding targets and we go chasing after them.”
Cowell was previously a part of Mercedes’ highly successful setup, which had a significant advantage over the competition in the early years of the turbo hybrid era. The Briton hopes to use his experience with the Silver Arrows to bring the culture to Aston Martin. “That’s what we did when Mercedes came in as a works team, working with Brackley and Brixworth,” he told me. “We had good results from 2014 onwards. Nico won several races and the championship!
“We’re just trying to do the same thing here. We’re attempting to bring together everyone at Silverstone, Aramco, Valvoline, and Honda to play a significant role in this.”
