F1 2025 Grid: Confirmed Driver Lineups for All Teams
With the final driver announcement from Red Bull confirming Isack Hadjar as the replacement for Liam Lawson, who will be moving up to Red Bull Racing, the driver lineup for the 2025 Formula 1 season is officially complete. The 2024 season was full of dramatic moments and intense on-track battles, with seven different drivers claiming multiple wins—something never seen before in F1 history. Off the track, the driver market was equally eventful, featuring some high-profile transfers that kept fans and teams buzzing.
One of the biggest shockwaves came early in the year when seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton announced that he would be leaving Mercedes at the end of 2024, after more than a decade with the team, to join Ferrari for the 2025 season. As the season wrapped up, another major move was confirmed when Sergio Perez and Red Bull decided to part ways immediately, even though Perez still had two years remaining on his contract. With all these changes now in place, the 2025 season will feature a unique lineup, including six rookies.
Here’s a breakdown of the confirmed driver lineups for the 2025 season:
Mercedes: George Russell, Kimi Antonelli
Mercedes will head into 2025 with George Russell and Kimi Antonelli behind the wheel. Back in 2023, Mercedes announced that Russell and Hamilton had signed extensions to stay with the team until the end of 2025. However, Hamilton surprised the racing world at the start of the 2024 season by revealing his decision to leave the Silver Arrows and team up with Charles Leclerc at Ferrari in 2025.
This left Mercedes with the daunting task of filling the seat vacated by one of the greatest drivers in F1 history. While there was much speculation about whether Mercedes might try to lure Max Verstappen away from Red Bull, team principal Toto Wolff later confirmed that the team decided to promote teenage sensation Andrea Kimi Antonelli from Formula 2. According to Wolff, the decision to bring in Antonelli only took “five minutes” after Hamilton’s departure was confirmed. Antonelli will now partner with Russell, who has steadily developed into a top-tier driver.
Ferrari: Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc
Ferrari’s driver lineup for 2025 will be one of the most exciting in recent memory, as the iconic Scuderia looks to break its 16-year title drought. Charles Leclerc, who has been with Ferrari since 2019, will be joined by Lewis Hamilton, who is chasing an unprecedented eighth world championship title after coming close several times in recent years.
The Italian team had a strong 2024 season, finishing just 14 points behind McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship. With the addition of Hamilton, Ferrari hopes to take the final step and bring both the drivers’ and constructors’ titles back to Maranello.
Red Bull: Max Verstappen, Liam Lawson
Red Bull’s lineup for 2025 will feature two drivers at very different points in their careers. Max Verstappen, who claimed his fourth consecutive world championship in 2024, will continue with the team until at least 2028, having the longest contract on the grid. Meanwhile, following the team’s decision to part ways with Sergio Perez, Red Bull has promoted Liam Lawson to a full-time seat alongside Verstappen. Lawson, who has only made 11 Formula 1 starts to date, will be aiming to make a strong impression as he partners with one of the sport’s most dominant figures.
Red Bull is hungry to reclaim the Constructors’ Championship in 2025 after McLaren broke their winning streak in 2024. With Verstappen’s experience and Lawson’s fresh energy, the team is poised for another championship push.
McLaren: Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri
McLaren will retain their highly successful driver pairing of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri for the 2025 season, both of whom have signed contract extensions that will keep them with the Woking team until at least 2026. The duo was instrumental in McLaren’s remarkable 2024 campaign, which saw them win the Constructors’ Championship for the first time in 26 years.
Norris, who finished second in the drivers’ standings behind Verstappen, and Piastri, who claimed multiple race victories, have established themselves as one of the strongest pairings on the grid. McLaren will be looking to build on their 2024 success and mount an even stronger challenge for the drivers’ title in 2025.
Williams: Carlos Sainz, Alexander Albon
Carlos Sainz will be making a fresh start with Williams in 2025 after leaving Ferrari at the end of 2024 to make way for Hamilton. The Spaniard had hoped to land a seat at either Mercedes or Red Bull, but with both teams opting for other drivers, Sainz signed a two-year deal with Williams.
Sainz will be paired with Alexander Albon, who has extended his contract with the Grove-based team. Williams has been making steady progress in recent seasons, and the arrival of Sainz brings additional experience and talent to a team eager to move further up the grid.
Aston Martin: Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll
Aston Martin will enter 2025 with an unchanged driver lineup, as both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll are signed on for the season. Alonso has agreed to stay with the team until the end of 2026, after which the two-time world champion has hinted that he may retire from Formula 1. Stroll’s place in the team remains secure, with his father, Lawrence Stroll, continuing to play a key role in the team’s ownership and management.
Alpine: Pierre Gasly, Jack Doohan
Alpine’s lineup will also feature a blend of youth and experience, with Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan teaming up for 2025. Gasly remains a key part of Alpine’s plans, having delivered consistent performances in 2024. Meanwhile, Doohan will make his full-time F1 debut after replacing Esteban Ocon, who left the team before the final races of the 2024 season. Doohan, who has impressed in Formula 2, will be looking to make his mark in the sport.
Racing Bulls: Yuki Tsunoda, Isack Hadjar
Yuki Tsunoda will stay with Red Bull’s sister team, Racing Bulls, for a fifth consecutive season after putting in a solid performance in 2024. He will be joined by Isack Hadjar, who has been promoted to Formula 1 after finishing second in the 2024 Formula 2 championship. With Tsunoda’s growing experience and Hadjar’s raw talent, Racing Bulls aims to be competitive in the midfield battle.
Haas: Esteban Ocon, Oliver Bearman
Haas will have an all-new driver lineup in 2025, with Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman stepping into the team. Ocon, who left Alpine mid-2024, brings valuable experience to Haas, while Bearman, a rising British star, will make his Formula 1 debut after showing promise in the junior categories.
Sauber: Nico Hulkenberg, Gabriel Bortoleto
Sauber will field another fresh driver pairing in 2025, as Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto join the team. Hulkenberg, a veteran of the sport, will be tasked with helping guide the team during its transition to becoming Audi in 2026. Bortoleto, the 2024 Formula 2 champion, is considered one of the most exciting prospects in the sport and will be eager to prove himself on the big stage.
With these confirmed lineups, only McLaren and Aston Martin will retain the same drivers from the previous season, while the other teams have made significant changes to their rosters in preparation for an exciting 2025 season.
