FIA Issues Multiple Post-Race Penalties Following Miami Grand Prix Re…read more.

After reviewing the 2025 Miami Grand Prix, the FIA handed out multiple post-race penalties that reshaped the final race results and stirred debate over rule enforcement.

Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz was given a five-second time penalty and one penalty point for causing a collision with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri during a late-race move at Turn 17. Stewards judged Sainz mainly at fault for braking too late and losing control, which led to Piastri damaging his front wing and falling out of points contention. Sainz’s penalty dropped him from fourth to fifth, pushing Red Bull’s Sergio Perez up to fourth place.

Haas driver Kevin Magnussen faced heavy penalties, receiving a 10-second time penalty and two penalty points for colliding with Logan Sargeant. He was also handed a 20-second penalty for pitting incorrectly under the safety car. Magnussen’s total now sits at 10 penalty points, just shy of the 12-point limit that triggers an automatic race ban.

Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll was penalized 10 seconds for overtaking Alex Albon off the track at Turn 1 and failing to give back the position, violating FIA rules.

Daniel Ricciardo also faced consequences: he was given a 10-second penalty for overtaking during safety car conditions. Since Ricciardo retired before serving it, the penalty was converted to a three-place grid drop for his next race.

These penalties have sparked fresh debate among drivers and fans about the consistency and fairness of the FIA’s penalty system, with several figures, including Sainz, questioning how rules are being applied.
