Ferrari ditched by key F1 ally for RIVAL team after Hamilton switch
Ferrari is undergoing significant changes ahead of the 2025 Formula 1 season, including a major reshuffle in their driver and staff lineup.
Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, is set to join Ferrari, replacing Carlos Sainz.
The Spaniard, in turn, has signed with Williams for the 2025 season and beyond.
Additionally, key personnel such as Loic Serra and Jerome d’Ambrosio, both formerly with Mercedes, will begin their first full seasons at Ferrari.
The shake-up has also led to a significant sponsorship shift. Spanish banking giant Santander, a long-time Ferrari partner, has announced a multi-year deal with Williams.
The decision follows the end of Santander’s four-season partnership with Ferrari, which concluded at the close of 2024.
The banking firm’s branding appeared on the Williams car during the post-season tyre test at the Yas Marina Circuit, where Sainz had his first outing with his new team.
James Vowles, Williams’ team principal, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing Santander’s reputation as a trusted global brand and its alignment with Williams’ transformation efforts.
He described the collaboration as a significant step forward for the team, aimed at engaging fans and elevating its profile in Formula 1.
Santander’s global head of communications, Juan Manuel Cendoya, highlighted the brand’s commitment to supporting Carlos Sainz in his new journey with Williams.
He also praised Williams as a team with a rich history and legacy in the sport, describing the partnership as a complement to Santander’s role as the official retail banking partner of Formula 1.
This move signals a fresh chapter for all parties involved.
Ferrari is focusing on reclaiming championship contention with Hamilton’s arrival, while Williams, buoyed by Sainz’s presence and a high-profile sponsor, aims to climb up the grid.
For Santander, the shift reinforces its support for Sainz while maintaining a strong presence in Formula 1.
