Ferrari putting together an ‘elastic’ program for Lewis Hamilton’s acclimatisation within the team: Reports
Lewis Hamilton will be joining Ferrari for the 2025 season, with his debut coming at the Fiorano Circuit in January. According to reports from motorsport.com, the Italian team has planned an ‘elastic’ schedule for Hamilton’s time on the test track for his first session in a single-seater Ferrari car. With dynamic weather conditions, the goal of the testing session at the track is to have acceptable conditions for Hamilton’s start to his journey in Ferrari.
The former Mercedes driver will have a day of testing either on January 20th or January 21st, based on the weather. The test program might also continue into Barcelona, where better temperatures may allow for the conditions the team is looking for in regards to Lewis’ sessions. Furthermore, the scarlet team has also given themselves a four-day window in which to cancel testing, subject to how the weather turns out in Spain.
The cancellation window also comes from the new regulations announced by the FIA in early December regarding “Testing of Previous Cars”. Lewis Hamilton, who might be driving either the 2022 or the 2023 single-seater Ferrari car in his sessions, will be subject to a 1,000-km cap in testing, which can be spread out over four days.
Ferrari will have to economize on the British driver’s laps so as not to exceed the cap, as well as allow him to gain familiarity with the car and become comfortable with the workings before they go racing next season.
Lewis Hamilton will get his chance to drive the 2025 Ferrari car in Bahrain when all teams participate in the same pre-season testing session at the end of February. Ferrari will reveal their car for the next season at Fiorano on February 19th.
Taking to the professional social media network, LinkedIn, earlier this week, Lewis Hamilton shared a message about starting his new role at Ferrari. Sharing his own feelings about his new job, along with sharing some words of encouragement, Lewis posted:
“I could not be more excited for the year ahead. Moving to Scuderia Ferrari, there’s a lot to reflect on. To anyone considering their next move in 2025: embrace the change. Whether you’re switching industries, learning a new skill, or even just taking on new challenges, remember that reinvention is powerful. Your next opportunity is always within reach. Here’s to 2025—a year of embracing new opportunities, staying hungry, and driving forward with purpose. Let’s make it one to remember. Andiamo”
