FIA Confirms Final Miami GP Results Following Post-Race Penalties and Pr…read more.

The 2025 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix ended with Oscar Piastri taking a dominant win, leading a McLaren one-two as teammate Lando Norris secured second place. Mercedes driver George Russell rounded out the podium, while Max Verstappen, who had started from pole, finished fourth after a challenging race.

After the checkered flag, the FIA reviewed several on-track incidents that affected the final results. Carlos Sainz was handed a five-second penalty for causing a collision with Piastri, which dropped the Ferrari driver from fourth to fifth and elevated Red Bull’s Sergio Perez to fourth.

Red Bull also lodged a formal protest against Russell, accusing him of not slowing sufficiently under yellow flags during a virtual safety car phase. However, after examining data and onboard footage, race stewards ruled that Russell had complied with the rules, allowing him to keep his third-place finish.

Ferrari’s internal struggles were once again highlighted, as Lewis Hamilton voiced frustration over the team’s race strategy after finishing eighth. Hamilton criticized delayed pit calls and team orders that instructed him to stay behind teammate Charles Leclerc, even though he was on fresher tyres. Despite post-race handshakes, both Ferrari drivers subtly pointed to ongoing issues with the team’s decision-making process.

The Miami Grand Prix also saw several retirements, including local favorite Logan Sargeant, Gabriel Bortoleto, Oliver Bearman, and Jack Doohan. Yet the race was largely defined by McLaren’s strong performance and Formula 1’s continued surge in popularity in the United States. The Miami circuit is confirmed to stay on the F1 calendar until 2041, reflecting the sport’s expanding footprint in the American market.

With this latest victory, Piastri extends his lead in the drivers’ championship, reinforcing McLaren’s rising status as a front-runner this season. Teams now shift focus to the next round, eager to carry forward momentum from Miami.
