FIA Announces Verdict on George Russell’s Penalty Following Bahrain T…read more.

The FIA has officially announced its decision regarding George Russell’s suspected breach of timing regulations during the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend. The Mercedes driver was under investigation for a potential infraction involving sector time limits during one of the practice sessions.

According to the stewards’ report, Russell was found to have marginally exceeded the allowed delta time in a slow lap during FP2. The FIA had introduced stricter timing rules this season to prevent dangerous backing up during practice and qualifying laps. These regulations are designed to maintain safety and ensure a consistent flow of cars on track.

After a thorough review of the telemetry data and communication between the driver and the team, the stewards concluded that while Russell did exceed the timing threshold, it was not deemed intentional or egregious. As a result, he has received a formal warning but no grid penalty or time deduction.

In a brief statement, the FIA said, “George Russell was found to have breached the delta time limit during a non-competitive lap. Given the minimal nature of the infraction and the lack of any safety concern, a warning has been issued.”

Russell acknowledged the investigation in a post-session interview, saying, “It was a bit tight on time, and we were trying to manage space. I respect the FIA’s ruling and will take more care moving forward.”

The verdict allows Russell to maintain his qualifying position and focus on the upcoming Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
