FIA steward drops Verstappen Las Vegas Grand Prix DNF BOMBSHELL
A recent statement from former F1 driver and current FIA steward Johnny Herbert has raised excitement over the possibility of Max Verstappen’s non-finish at the upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix, which could create a dramatic shift in the World Championship standings.
Verstappen, the reigning champion and a dominant force this season, further demonstrated his racing prowess with a stunning comeback at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Starting in 16th place due to a penalty and a Q2 exit, Verstappen charged through the field to claim victory, aided by a well-timed red flag that placed him in a prime position to take the lead.
This win has brought him even closer to a potential fourth consecutive championship title.
While Verstappen’s championship prospects are strong, Lando Norris, currently his primary competitor, is still in contention despite finishing sixth in Brazil—a disappointing result following his pole position start.
Norris now faces a significant challenge in his title bid, but Herbert sees hope for him, particularly if Verstappen experiences a DNF (Did Not Finish) in Las Vegas.
Herbert commented that if Norris “just continues doing what he is doing,” he still has a chance, especially with one mistake or bad luck from Verstappen.
According to Herbert, Verstappen would likely only need to secure podium finishes rather than wins to hold onto the title, thanks to his maturity and strategic approach this season.
Even if Verstappen wins the 2024 championship, Herbert believes Norris has achieved a psychological victory by proving he can pressure Verstappen and contend at the highest level, which will be advantageous going into the 2025 season.
Herbert praised Norris’ resilience and ability to “ruffle” Verstappen’s “feathers,” which he says is exactly what’s required to challenge a competitor of Verstappen’s caliber.
Herbert shared his insights with Vision4Sport, a company offering hospitality packages for major F1 events, including the Monaco Grand Prix.
Fans and enthusiasts are encouraged to follow the intense championship race, with Norris still seen as a threat if Verstappen falters in Las Vegas.
