Forest hit with four-point deduction by Premier League after…..
Due to the penalty, Forest is now one point below Luton Town, who are now in 17th place in the Premier League, and will be dropping into the relegation zone.
pix to make an announcement, and Forest is probably going to file an appeal.
Forest was accused of violating the Premier League’s sustainability and profitability rules in January.
The Guardian claims that although Forest acknowledged the financial violation, their defense rested on “extenuating circumstances” pertaining to Brennan Johnson’s sale.
Early in the summer transfer window, Forest got a £30 million bid from Brentford; however, the Johnson family was not interested in the transfer, and Forest wanted to wait until later in the window to get more money for their academy graduate.
Johnson was subsequently traded to Tottenham for £47.5 million, but only after the Premier League’s June 30 deadline for compliance with sustainability and profitability regulations.
Premier League teams are allowed to lose up to £105 million in a rolling three-year period, or £35 million every season.
This amount is lowered for promoted teams, therefore Forest can only lose a total of £61 million over the past three seasons—£13 million in the Championship each of their two seasons, plus an additional £35 million in the Premier League this past season.
‘Nottingham Forest accepts the notification from the Premier League indicating that the club has today been charged with an infringement of the league’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules,’ the statement from the FA reads.
“The club is optimistic about a prompt and equitable resolution and intends to continue to cooperate fully with the Premier League on this matter.”
