Daniel Ricciardo, the former Formula 1 driver, shared an emotional video message congratulating Max Verstappen on winning his fourth consecutive drivers’ championship.
Ricciardo, who lost his spot on the grid after the Singapore Grand Prix, was replaced by Liam Lawson for the remainder of the 2024 season.
In what might be his final significant contribution to Formula 1, Ricciardo managed to secure the fastest lap in Singapore, denying Verstappen’s closest rival, Lando Norris, an additional point.
Ricciardo and Verstappen have maintained a strong relationship despite their past rivalry at Red Bull.
Highlighting Verstappen’s spectacular drive in Brazil, Ricciardo likened it to some of the sport’s greatest moments, saying,”Max, you’re a bad man. four in a row, it’s awesome. Really happy for you. You’ve been flawless and pretty spectacular.”
Ricciardo, who has over 250 grand prix starts, eight race wins, and 32 podium finishes to his name, has never secured a world championship title.
As his future in F1 remains uncertain, many consider his career a success despite not achieving the ultimate prize.
The Australian’s message to Verstappen marks a poignant moment in what could be the end of his F1 journey, underscoring the respect and camaraderie that exists between the two drivers.
