Hamilton reveals poor relationship after disastrous weekend
Lewis Hamilton admitted to a strained relationship with his Mercedes car after a disappointing Qatar Grand Prix.
Despite a strong second-place finish in Las Vegas the previous weekend, Hamilton struggled to maintain momentum in Lusail.
In qualifying, George Russell outperformed Hamilton, taking pole position, while the seven-time champion could only manage P6.
Reflecting on his performance after sprint qualifying, Hamilton admitted he was “not fast” and expressed eagerness for the upcoming winter break.
Hamilton’s struggles continued during the race.
A false start earned him an early penalty, and his troubles compounded when he ran over debris from a broken wing mirror, causing a puncture.
Forced to pit, he dropped further down the order.
Later, a pit-lane speeding penalty added to his woes, ultimately leaving him to finish a disappointing P12, well outside the points.
Speaking to the media after the race, Hamilton described the weekend as challenging, acknowledging a lack of synergy with his car.
“It just didn’t really go that great,” he told Sky Sports.
“Don’t judge me by how many times I fall, but I’m going to get up tomorrow and give it another go.”
Hamilton elaborated on the difficulties with his car setup, citing a lack of downforce and overall balance as significant issues.
“The car and I don’t get along really that well.
We were very far off in the beginning and didn’t have enough wing in to start with. The cars were quite different, and it wasn’t really great to drive.”
The 39-year-old also took responsibility for his mistakes, apologizing to the team for the false start and pit-lane speeding incident.
Despite the setbacks, Hamilton expressed determination to bounce back.
The disappointing weekend in Qatar highlights a challenging phase for Hamilton and Mercedes, emphasizing the need for adjustments ahead of the next season.
