Remembering the Yankees’ inaugural victory at Yankee Stadium.
The debut of the New York Yankees’ new stadium in mid-April 2009 marked a significant shift in baseball. After starting the season with nine consecutive away games, the team eagerly returned home, albeit in an unfamiliar setting. Almost 15 years ago to the date, the Yankees hosted Cleveland in the Bronx for a weekend series at their new venue. However, the inaugural game didn’t go as planned; the Yankees suffered a heavy defeat, losing 10-2. Despite Jorge Posada hitting the first home run off future World Series opponent Cliff Lee, the team faced numerous challenges on the field.
Nevertheless, the Yankees quickly bounced back from this setback, clinching their first victory in the new stadium the following day, on April 17th. As the anniversary of that win approaches, and with another series against the Guardians this weekend, I’m eager to revisit that game and reminisce about old memories.
