EPL: Why we beat Chelsea 1-0 — Aston Villa coach Unai Emery

Aston Villa’s manager, Unai Emery, attributed his team’s 1-0 victory over Chelsea in Sunday’s Premier League match to their strong competitiveness and solid defensive performance against the hosts.

In the second half of the game, Ollie Watkins scored the lone goal for Aston Villa, securing the win. However, Malo Gusto received a red card during the match at Stamford Bridge.

In his post-match press conference, Emery remarked, “Winning here is a challenging task, and if the game had unfolded differently, we could have ended up on the losing side. Nevertheless, I’m pleased because we displayed great competitiveness and defensive solidity.”

He further praised Watkins, stating, “He consistently demonstrates dedication in training and during matches, which is invaluable to the team. His goal today was crucial, and we will continue to rely on his scoring abilities. Additionally, Emiliano Martinez delivered an excellent performance.”

With this victory over Chelsea, Aston Villa now sits in sixth place in the Premier League standings, having accumulated 12 points from six matches.
