A dramatic qualifying session at Imola has reshaped the grid for the 2025 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, following a late twist involving McLaren’s Oscar Piastri. The Australian initially claimed provisional pole with a stellar lap, but a post-session investigation for impeding Carlos Sainz in Q1 led to a three-place grid penalty, stripping him of his maiden pole position.

As a result, Lando Norris inherits pole position, making it back-to-back front-row starts following his Miami Grand Prix victory. Max Verstappen moves up to second, setting up a mouthwatering front-row clash between two of the season’s standout drivers.

George Russell holds onto third for Mercedes after escaping penalty for a pit exit line violation. Piastri, now starting fourth, remains a podium contender.

Charles Leclerc lines up fifth in front of the Tifosi, with Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli starting sixth on home soil—his first Imola appearance in F1, adding emotional significance to the weekend.

Alex Albon impressed with seventh for Williams, outqualifying Carlos Sainz in eighth. Sainz, the driver impeded by Piastri, avoided penalty but will be chasing a stronger race performance.

Yuki Tsunoda starts ninth, maintaining solid form, while Lewis Hamilton, now in Ferrari red, completes the top ten after a track limits violation cost him a faster lap.

The final grid highlights the intensity of the 2025 season and the impact of strict stewarding. With Norris and Verstappen leading the charge and several drivers eager to fight forward, Sunday’s race at 15:00 local time promises to be a classic at one of Formula 1’s most revered circuits.
