A trade proposal involving the Toronto Maple Leafs acquiring Columbus Blue Jackets forward Patrik Laine has…
Following Laine’s request for a trade and his placement in the NHL and NHLPA Player Assistance Program on July 26, the website PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool facilitated a user-created trade scenario.
– Maple Leafs receive: Patrik Laine (with $4.4 million salary retained) and a 2025 third-round pick.
– Blue Jackets receive: Nick Robertson, David Kampf, and a 2026 first-round pick.
This trade would add another offensive asset for the Maple Leafs while the Blue Jackets would gain Robertson, who has requested a trade due to dissatisfaction with his playing time, and Kampf, a defensive forward. The Blue Jackets would also receive the Maple Leafs’ 2026 first-round pick.
Laine, who was traded to Columbus from the Winnipeg Jets in January 2021, has struggled with consistency and health, prompting his trade request. Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell acknowledged Laine’s desire for a fresh start but emphasized the need for a deal that benefits Columbus. Despite Robertson’s trade request, Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving expressed no intention of trading him, highlighting Robertson’s potential and importance to the team.
